New England Peptide Implements Quality Management System, Prepares for ISO 9001: 2008 Registration
Gardner, Mass. (PRWEB) July 15, 2008 -- New England Peptide, LLC (NEP), is developing a formal quality management system at its Gardner, Mass., facility, focusing on continuous process improvement and customer satisfaction.
The program is designed to help NEP ensure that the company continues to offer the best quality and service possible in the industry, says Dave Robinson, NEP's CEO, while preparing for potential ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Registration.
The ISO 9000 family of standards represents an international consensus on quality management practices. The ISO 9001:2008 standard provides a tried and tested framework for taking a systematic approach to managing an organization's processes so that they consistently turn out product that satisfies customers' expectations.
In the implementation of the system, NEP will document and standardize all quality control processes and procedures involved in manufacture of the company's products, from customer inquiry through shipment, in line with ISO's rigorous criteria. All employees will undergo training in policies, procedures, and work instructions that are compliant with ISO quality documents. Selected NEP personnel will conduct internal audits at the end of the process.
The formal system and process will help assure the most efficient operations and top-quality customer service, says Robinson, by taking steps to move through the quality process as expediently as possible, continually work to tighten standards and systems, and quickly identify and correct any issues that arise in day-to-day operations. "It's running a smart business," he states.
NEP will integrate the quality system with its PepTrend© knowledge base software. PepTrend facilitates the design, synthesis, and production of synthetically made peptides by incorporating data harnessed though each peptide production run with decades worth of proven peptide chemistry knowledge and trends. New standard operating procedures built upon PepTrend's best practices will allow NEP's production team to apply solutions to unique coupling challenges faster than ever, according to Robinson, resulting in increased yields, decreased turnaround time, further enhancement of on-time delivery and order accuracy, and greater reductions in scrap rate.
The quality system also complements NEP's lean manufacturing program, now in process at the company's facility, adds Robinson. Lean manufacturing also focuses on continuous improvement, helping companies standardize best practices, increase yields, and reduce production backlogs and work-in-process inventory.
"From NEP's beginnings in 1998, the company has built a culture of continuous improvement," explains Sam Massoni, NEP's founder and senior vice president of science and new technology. Robinson agrees. "A quality system such as one designed to prepare for ISO registration is the logical next step in the evolution of our customer-driven organization. Preparing for ISO 9001: 2008 will place NEP in an elite group in its industry, allowing us to meet demand even more productively with the service and quality our customers around the world have come to expect."
NEP is working with ISO consulting, training and audit firm Global Business Systems of Lunenburg, Mass., to implement the quality program. The company's president, William L. Reynolds, who is an ISO registering quality system lead auditor and certified quality manager, is impressed with NEP's progress. He expects NEP to be ready for ISO registration within nine months.
