Energy Curtailment Specialists Launches ?PowerPay! New England? Demand Response Program

Buffalo, NY (Vocus) March 26, 2008 -- Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. (www.ecsgrid.com) (ECS), the largest privately held demand response provider in the United States, announced plans to aggressively launch their demand response program, coined the ?PowerPay! New England? Program, throughout the New England territory. The company?s expert guidance, led by a strong advisory team, including Paul G. Afonso, former Chairman of the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Energy (now the Public Utilities Commission), will help ECS expand its demand response programs into the New England region. ECS currently has several thousand customer facilities participating in their demand response programs across the country, from a wide variety of industries, including manufacturers like General Motors, hotels under the Marriott International brand, hospitals, commercial high rises, large retail chains, educational institutions like Columbia University, among other industry types.

In summer 2007 ECS? customers across all markets combined to reduce more than 850 MW of power from the grid, an amount equivalent to that which is necessary to power 850,000 New England homes. Tens of millions of dollars were paid to these customers for participating.

Demand response (www.ecsgrid.com) programs in general are established for the purpose of maintaining reliability of the electric grid. Participants reduce their electric usage for a short period of time a couple of times per year when supplies are tight, usually due to extreme demands caused by significant heat. In exchange participants are paid just as if they were a little power plant selling power to the market for others to use during these high demand times. This generally means significant dollars to a participating business.

?ECS is a respected leader in this industry and as such they know precisely how these programs should be administered, above all else making it customer friendly while bringing significant benefits to its customers, including revenue to their bottom line,? said Mr. Afonso, currently the Practice Leader of Brown Rudnick's Government Law & Strategies Group in Boston and Strategic Advisor for ECS. ?Their entrance into the New England market is timely and strategically vital as they offer a no-risk program with significant payments ? while providing yet another important competitive choice for New England customers in the demand response (www.ecsgrid.com) sector.?

ECS? demand response programs in New York and California have been very successful and highly effective in stabilizing the electric grid when demand is extremely high. In New York State alone where there are a significant number of active demand response providers (DRP) ECS? portfolio represents 2/3 of every single DRP-registered kilowatt. In that same market ECS' portfolio in the aggregate performed at over 100% every single time it has been called into action by the New York Independent System Operator. This level of reliability has helped ECS stand apart from other providers in the eyes of regulating bodies and ensures that participants are paid what they expect, when they expect it.

The PowerPay! New England Program is unique because it is a best efforts program with no out-of-pocket financial penalties, if the reduction goal is not met. Participation payments are higher than ever before and are received in the form of a check, not merely a credit on the electric bill. Virtually any type of business with a minimum demand of 200 kW can participate.

"We are extremely excited about the anticipated success of our efforts in New England for all involved: the customer enrolling in our program because they are looking to reduce energy costs and be paid for once for the way they use their energy; the community and electric grid that will see lower energy costs and a greater sense of reliability of power; and for those that enjoy the prospect of a ?greener? energy source which has limited to no effect on the environment. ECS will be bringing more money to New England businesses than ever before,? said Stephen P. Lynch, principal and co-founder of ECS and Boston-area native.
